Piranesi's house is no ordinary building: its rooms are infinite, its corridors endless, its walls lined with thousands upon thousands of statues, each one different from all the others. Within the labyrinth of halls an ocean is imprisoned; waves thunder up staircases, rooms are flooded in an instant. But Piranesi, while alone, is not afraid; he understands the tides as he understands the pattern of the labyrinth itself. He lives to explore the house. One day, a woman arrives in the house and explains to Piranesi he was kidnapped from "the real world" where he has a family and friends, and he was imprisoned within the house, eventually forgetting who he was. The woman, a police officer, offers to take Piranesi home. She is leaving before she also loses her memories, so it is a one-time offer.
